Former Chelsea player, Joe Cole has singled out two Morocco stars, Yassine Bounou and Achraf Hakimi for special praise after the North Africans defeated Spain in the World Cup last-16 encounter on Tuesday.

Morocco advanced to the World Cup quarter-final after beating Spain 3-0 on penalties after the match ended in a 0-0 draw after 120 minutes.

During the penalty shootout, Yassine Bounou made two good saves while Sarabia also hit the post with his spot kick.

Morocco, meanwhile, scored through Abdelhamid Sabiri, Hakim Ziyech and Hakimi.

Speaking after the match, Cole told ITV: “It’s a real honour and a privilege to be here in front of all these Morocco fans and the emotion is palpable.

“This is why we love football. I said before the shootout, they were heroes, whatever happened, but football is about moments.”

He added: “Hakimi, to do that (Panenka). He is shown there to do that, he is just gone wallop, sat him down and said “we are going to the quarter-finals”.

“We criticised him (Bounou) for his distribution earlier on, it looked like he was nervous.

“But in penalties, he grew. Puffed his chest out and looked huge in the goal. He had a presence and looked at these scenes. It never gets old.”
