WORLD TEACHERS’ DAY: CAIDOV CELEBRATES NIGERIAN TEACHERS, CALLS FOR IMPROVED REMUNERATION AND SAFE SCHOOLS ACROSS NIGERIA

The Centre Against Injustice and Domestic Violence (CAIDOV) today joins the rest of the world to celebrate Nigerian teachers on the occasion of World Teachers’ Day, October 5th, 2026.

In a statement signed by its Executive Director, Comrade Gbenga Soloki, CAIDOV described teachers as the soul of the nation, the builders of builders and the true heroes of development who deserve far better than they currently get.

Comrade Soloki lamented that despite their enormous contributions to nation-building, Nigerian teachers remain among the least remunerated, least motivated and least protected professionals in the country.

CAIDOV therefore calls for Improved Remuneration and Welfare, which includes Immediate review of teachers’ salaries, prompt payment, special allowances, health insurance and decent retirement packages at federal, state and local government levels, while there should be full implementation of the Safe School Declaration. Government must urgently protect schools from bandits, kidnappers, cultists and sexual predators. Every Nigerian child, especially the girl-child, must learn in safety.

CAIDOV stated that there should be an end to assault, intimidation and sexual harassment of teachers and pupils in schools, while advocating for Continuous professional development for teachers to meet 21st century teaching standards.

The group noted that many teachers, particularly female teachers in rural areas, face insecurity, sexual harassment, and lack of accommodation, yet continue to show dedication.

“On this World Teachers’ Day, we say thank you to every teacher who still stands in front of the blackboard with hope. Your sacrifice keeps Nigeria alive. Government at all levels must now stand for teachers as teachers have stood for Nigeria,” Soloki concluded.
