Yuletide: Kaduna residents make last minute purchase amid high cost of food items

Kaduna residents on Wednesday lamented the high cost of food items and livestock, five days to Christmas celebrations.

Although many residents across the state, especially Christians are making proper arrangements to purchase food and other necessities to celebrate the season, they are concerned that, food items, such as rice, yam, soup ingredients and animals for slaughtering have excessively increased beyond reach.

Matha Yakubu, a resident in an interview with DAILY POST said, a bag of rice is now 60,000 as against the previous price of 40,000 adding that the price increases daily

Mallam Abdullahi Tanimu, a trader said the cost of transportation influenced the rising cost of food generally.

Also, Mrs. Ruth Madaki who sells soup ingredients said ” as a trader and all those involved in buying and selling of foodstuff, know that this period is a period to make money. Every trader wants to increase the market price of their food items, in order to celebrate Christmas as well.”
