Agura: Ogun governor promises to fund Oba Bakre’s burial

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has promised that his administration would take responsibility for the burial of the late Agura of Gbagura Abeokuta, Oba Sabur Bakre.

Governor Abiodun disclosed this one Friday when he paid a condolence visit to the Guard Council of Chiefs.

Abiodun said the deceased monarch held a revered throne and he must be accorded the respect he deserves.

The governor maintained that the burial activities of the late king is a state responsibility, saying a committee of the state government would be set up to work with chiefs in planning a befitting burial ceremony for the late Agura.

His words: “The burial activities of the Kabiyesi are for the state government, not Gbagura. This is a state responsibility. He held a revered throne and we will accord him the regards, the right, the respect and celebration that he deserves. We will accord Gbagura the celebration that Gbagura deserves.

“For the burial arrangement, we will set up a government committee that will work with you. As a government, we will try our best.”

Abiodun commiserated with the immediate family of the traditional ruler, praying that God would be the companion of the widow and children he left behind.

Bakre, the ninth Agura died on Wednesday evening at the age of 61, after a brief illness.

The remains of the monarch have since been buried on Thursday, according to Islamic rites.
