Alakija Takes 2027 Assembly Race to the Grassroots as Oshodi/Isolo APC Fixes Campaign Flag-Off

By Adeleke Olubanwo

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oshodi/Isolo Constituency I, Lagos State, has fixed Thursday, November 5, 2026, for the formal flag-off of the campaign for its candidate in the 2027 Lagos State House of Assembly election, Hon. Mayowa Alakija, popularly known as “Bibire.”

The campaign event is scheduled to hold at Owoseni Primary School, Oshodi, beginning at 12 noon.

The flag-off is expected to mark the beginning of a more intensive mobilisation drive by the APC across Oshodi/Isolo Constituency I, with party leaders, stakeholders, ward executives, supporters and residents expected to participate.

Alakija’s candidacy has attracted significant political attention in the constituency, particularly following the controversy that surrounded the APC primary election earlier this year.

While some reports identified Alakija as the party’s candidate, The PUNCH reported that Stephen Ogundipe was declared winner of the primary with 11,939 votes. Subsequent reports, however, continued to identify Alakija as the recognised APC candidate for the constituency.

The development has consequently placed Oshodi/Isolo Constituency I among the constituencies attracting considerable political interest ahead of the 2027 Lagos Assembly election.

Alakija is a former Education Secretary of the Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Education Authority. His political aspiration has also received support from sections of the APC youth structure and other party stakeholders.

In April, The Nation reported that Lagos APC Youth Leader, Muritala Seriki, endorsed Alakija, describing him as a grassroots-oriented member of the party.

Official Lagos education records also list Hon. Mayowa Alakija as Education Secretary of the Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Education Authority, whose office is located at Owoseni Primary School, Oshodi.

The November 5 flag-off will therefore provide the APC candidate with an opportunity to formally engage constituents, present his campaign agenda and begin a broader mobilisation ahead of the 2027 election.

The event is also coming on the heels of the constitution of the Oshodi/Isolo APC Election Campaign and Flag-Off Committee.

Hon. Olukayode Ezekiel Salako was appointed chairman of the committee, while Hon. Rafiu Adenopo was named Public Relations Officer and Hon. Prince Adekunle Adewale Kehinde (Agboni) appointed secretary.

The committee is expected to coordinate the campaign flag-off and oversee mobilisation across the party’s structures within the local government.

As the November 5 date approaches, political attention is expected to focus on the APC leaders and stakeholders who will attend the event, the strength of the party’s grassroots mobilisation and, importantly, the message Alakija will take to voters as the 2027 Assembly race gathers momentum.
