Customs Comptroller Hails NAGAFF Cargo Watch, Pledges Continued Collaboration

The Customs Area Comptroller (CAC) of Murtala Muhammed Airport Command (MMAC), Godwin Otunla, has commended the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) and its media arm, NAGAFF Cargo Watch, for their sustained engagement with the Nigeria Customs Service.
Comptroller Otunla made the commendation during a familiarity visit by the NAGAFF Cargo Watch team to MMAC, describing the visit as timely and significant.
He acknowledged the long-standing relationship between Customs and NAGAFF, likening the association’s growth to a child whose emergence into relevance was once challenging but is now firmly established.
He stressed that NAGAFF has become a critical stakeholder in the freight forwarding ecosystem and urged the association to continue upholding professionalism.
The Comptroller who pledged an open-door policy and continued collaboration to enhance trade facilitation, revenue generation, and national security. Expressed that the command would review NAGAFF’s MEDIA requests for partnership and programme sponsorship.
Otunla assured the delegation that his office remains open to credible criticism and constructive dialogue, emphasizing that freight forwarders serve as a vital link between government and the trading public.
He noted that seamless operations could only be achieved through mutual cooperation and adherence to established rules and regulations. While emphasizing that national security remains Customs’ foremost responsibility.
The MMAC Boss assured that trade facilitation and revenue generation would continue to be pursued within the legal framework, noting that disagreements, where they arise, can always be resolved amicably.
The CAC also commended freight forwarders for their contribution to the command’s revenue performance, revealing that MMAC generated over ₦200 billion in revenue in 2025.
He further highlighted that the 2026 fiscal year has started strongly, with January revenue reaching approximately ₦24 billion, a significant increase from the ₦16 billion recorded in January of the previous year while crediting these achievements to both institutional efforts and the contributions of licensed agents and stakeholders.
