The Edo State Government has denied reports that Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has been banned from entering or performing in the state, saying he remains welcome to visit.

Edo Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Kassim Afegbua, said on Friday, August 21, 2026, that the state government dissociated itself from the alleged ban, describing the person who announced it as an “impostor” and “fraud.”

The controversy followed remarks by Kassy Chukwu, a Senior Special Assistant to Governor Monday Okpebholo on Digital Media, who had said Davido was banned from performing in Edo for the remainder of the governor’s tenure following their recent dispute.

Afegbua said Edo remains open to everyone regardless of political affiliation and added that the government would be willing to collaborate with Davido if he decides to perform in the state. He also described Davido as one of Edo’s “illustrious sons,” noting that the singer’s late mother hailed from the state.

The commissioner said the disagreement surrounding Davido, Governor Okpebholo and the recent Osun election was “purely politics and nothing more,” stressing that there was nothing personal in the issues that intensified during the campaign period.
