EGUNJOBI EMBARKS ON SETTING-UP RECREATIONAL PARK IN AGEGE
—Reaffirms Commitment To Transform Agege Into Preferred Tourist And Entertainment Hub
The Executive Chairman of Agege Local Government Area, Alhaji High Chief Ganiyu Kola Egunjobi, has embarked on setting up an ultra-modern Recreational Park in Akilo Area of Agege, with a resolve to continue to guarantee enviable and sustainable environment that will ensure the wellbeing of the residents.
Egunjobi stated the park would be situated at Akilo axis of Agege, reason being that, the located place is in the heart of the Local Government, connecting other Local Government Areas such as Ikeja, Ifako-Ijaye etc.
Embarking on this project remains part of the testament of his administration’s resolve to ensure that recreation becomes a lifestyle for the generality of Agegians.
According to the Chairman, “The milestone we have achieved in the conceptualization and execution of some of our set projects and agenda especially as it pertains to the environment at the dawn of this administration is the manifestation of our determination to ensure a healthy and prosperous Agege.
“I have vowed to continually implement initiatives targeted at ensuring a healthy and prosperous Local Community.
“Setting up this recreational park, has further affirmed our commitment to guaranteeing an enviable and sustainable environment that will ensure the wellbeing of the residentss and also help achieve our desire to actualize the status of Agege not only as one of the commercial hub Lagos but also as a preferred Local tourist and entertainment destination”.
Highlighting the importance of parks to healthy development of every metropolitan city and social bonding, the Chairman said parks benefit the economy and improve the general wellbeing of the residents, while also serving as a place to significantly impact children as well as an avenue for families to spend quality time together.
“The importance of parks in a community cannot be eroded and this has been proven with the universally set standard which states that there must be a high-quality park within a ten (10) minutes walking distance from the community. Although, we still has a long way to go to achieve this set standard, we are however resolute in this quest.
“The construction of the park was in line with the vision to bequeath an enduring legacy in the area of sustainable environment and recreation even for better and improved health for residents”, Egunjobi said.
The Chairman also reiterated that the park would ease the pressure being experienced at the Finnih Park, Ndubuisi Kanu Park and the Johnson Jakande Tinubu (JJT) Park both in Ikeja, and as well provide necessary relief for the residents of Agege, Orile-Agege, Ikeja, Ifako-Ijaye and neighboring environs, among other adjourning areas of the Local Government.
Listing the features of the Park, Egunjobi said the facility occupies land area of hundreds square meters with soft and hard landscaping and recreation facilities such as a mini tennis, basketball courts, bicycle track, dry fountain, botanical gardens, cool spot, canteen, and commercial stand, among others.
He said additional trappings at the facility included ornamental plants, garden seats, garden lights, playgrounds for adults and children, toilet facilities, parking area etc.
“The huge benefits of recreational parks include, to reduce health challenges, it is also good for relaxation, comradeship, exposures, conviviality, tackle global warming and improve mental health, among others”, he stressed.
