Producer of Akili and Friends, Ubongo an African edutainment organization, has premiered its highly anticipated Children cartoon show named ‘Nuzo and Namia’ in Nigeria. The show which will be aired in some television stations and streaming platforms aims to encourage learning through play, promote inclusivity, and raise awareness about neurodiversity across the continent.

The show was premiered at the Silverbird Cinemas, Ikeja, Lagos on 17th of June and was attended by children, parents, journalists and other stakeholders.

One of the objectives of the show is to create awareness about neurodiversity.

Neurodiversity recognizes that individuals perceive and engage with the world in diverse ways, acknowledging that there is no singular “correct” way of thinking, learning, or behaving. It celebrates differences rather than viewing them as shortcomings or deficits. In African households, neurodivergent children often face challenges, including parental concerns, being labeled as slow learners, and even exclusion from schools. Ubongo firmly believes that every child has a unique way of learning and that no child should be left behind in education.

With this vision in mind, Ubongo embarked on a journey to create a new show that focuses on the diverse ways in which children can learn while emphasizing the universal language of play.

Olatayo Olaniyan, Country Manager, Ubongo Nigeria stated that the show will revolutionize the education sector as it comes with engaging and inclusive content that resonates with diverse learners.

He added that his organization does not want any child to be left behind, irrespective of how fast or slow they learn, stating that most of its shows have been adopted to local language to reach kids in undeserved areas and Nuzo and Namia will soon be adopted to Nigerian local languages.

Suliyat Idris, Education Manager, Ubongo Nigeria said that before it generate contents it engage with the children, teachers, parents, neurodiversity consultants, medical professionals, and other stakeholders while it also ensures that every content meet set objectives.

“We are using the African story to teach literacy and convention skills, the ability to visualize, recall and others.”

Similarly, Remi Olutimayin, Neurodiversity Consultant, Ubongo Nigeria said that neurodiversity is not a new thing but it is newly recognized and show will help address it and help children with it learn at their pace.

Through this transformative collaboration, Ubongo is committed to equipping every African child with the necessary support to thrive. Ubongo’s organizational goal is to become the leading inclusive, play-based edutainment producer in Africa, improving engagement, learning experiences, and outcomes for all.
