Gbenga Abiola Calls for Peace, Unity After APC Agege Assembly Primary

The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Lagos State House of Assembly, Agege Constituency I, Mr. Gbenga Abiola aka Agbelebu, has appealed to party members and supporters to embrace peace, unity and reconciliation following the conclusion of the party’s primary election.
Abiola urged his supporters to refrain from insulting, mocking or attacking fellow aspirants and their supporters, stressing that the primary election had come to an end and that the party must now focus on winning future elections.
The former Vice Chairman of Agege Local Government emerged as the APC flag bearer after the party’s primary election held on May 20, bringing an end to weeks of political disagreements within the constituency.
His emergence followed a period of controversy during which another aspirant, Alhaji Ganiyu Egunjobi, had earlier been announced as the winner by some party interests before the Lagos APC leadership resolved the matter and confirmed Abiola as the party’s candidate.
In a statement released on Sunday, Abiola said there was no justification for bitterness or division among members of the same political family.
“We must remember that we are all members of one APC family. There is no need for insults, mockery or unnecessary provocation. Our collective interest should always come before personal differences,” he said.
He appealed to party supporters to conduct themselves responsibly both online and offline, warning against inflammatory comments capable of creating unnecessary tension within the party.
According to him, true leadership is reflected in discipline, maturity and respect for differing opinions, especially after a keenly contested election.
Abiola also acknowledged the contributions of all aspirants who participated in the primary election, noting that each of them played an important role in strengthening the APC in Agege.
He called on party leaders, stakeholders and supporters to close ranks and work together in pursuit of the party’s electoral success and developmental agenda.
“The time for contest is over, and the time for collaboration has begun. Let us work together for the progress of Agege, our party and the Renewed Hope Agenda,” he stated.
Abiola expressed confidence that a united APC would remain stronger and better positioned to deliver electoral victory and quality representation for the people of Agege Constituency I.
