Governor Obaseki’s Aide-De-Camp Collapses During His Second Term Inauguration (Watch Video)
The aide-de-camp (ADC) to Godwin Obaseki, governor of Edo state, collapsed during his second term inauguration on Thursday at the Tennis Court of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City, the state capital.
AMILOADED gathered that incident happened around 12 noon while the governor gave an appreciation speech after the Oath of Office was administered by the Chief Judge of the State, Justice Esther Edigin.
The well-kitted ADC, whose name was yet to be confirmed as of the time of filing this report, stood behind the governor during the speech but slumped while Obaseki appreciated members of the Peoples Democratic Party for “covering us with the umbrella when we were abandoned in political wilderness”.
About four other aides around the governor attended to the ADC as Obaseki ended his about 20-minute speech.
The Special Adviser to the governor on Media and Communication Strategy, Mr Crusoe Osagie, did not respond to calls put to his line by our correspondent. Text messages sent were also not replied as of the time of filing this report.
His condition is unclear at the moment.
Some social media users are suggesting that the police officer blacked out as a result of limited air (oxygen) due to his face mask and condition of the venue where the ceremony held
Meanwhile, in his speech, Obaseki described himself as a “redefinition of democracy”.
According to him, it is time to do away with politics of division and ensure equitable distribution of resources to improve the lives of the people of the state.
“That I stand before you here today is a testimony to the awesome power of God Almighty and to the indomitable will of the great people of Edo state,” he said.
“My reelection represents a new hope. I see myself as a vessel in the redefinition of democracy in Nigeria and I am not unaware that this places enormous responsibilities on me.
“It is pertinent to state that there are many sides to our victory which we are relishing today. Aside from the fact that it restores hope in democracy as a form of participatory government, our victory also offers an opportunity for us to bridge the gap between a challenged past and a promising future.”
In attendance were Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, represented by Edobor Iyamu, senior special assistant to the president on Niger Delta affairs, as well as Aminu Tambuwal, Ifeanyi Okowa, Duoye Diri and Nyesom Wike — governors of Sokoto, Delta, Bayelsa and Rivers states, respectively.
Also present were top politicians of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Obaseki, who contested on the platform of the PDP, had defeated his closest rival, Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the September 19 governorship election.
