It was an avoidable death, it was unnecessary, my friend should not have died” he wailed.

According to the eyewitness who identified himself as Daniel Akani, the events that led to the untimely death of his friend popularly known as Atela was based on the payment of 500 naira for playing snooker which the supervisor had earlier said should not be paid.

In his words, “I went to the bar as usual and met Atela there, I didn’t even know he was there until I got there and saw him. We sat down chatting as they were repairing the snooker board which we had complained about serval times. Once they were done, we tried playing but realised that it was not equal so we had to set it again. I tried to play but lost, my friend also lost as the board still needed adjustment but the supervisor said we should not worry about paying but should just set it.”

He however stated that Nyele, the boardman insisted on collecting money for the game and started harassing the deceased which almost resulted in fisticuffs.

“People around settled it and we sat down taking our energy drinks as we don’t take alcohol. It was like 25 to 30 minutes later that the boardman appeared from nowhere with a kitchen knife and stabbed my friend on the neck twice in rapid succession,” Akani said.

It was gathered gathered that the deceased was declared dead at the hospital while the Supervisor of the Lounge helped in detaining the alleged culprit until the police arrive.
