Iran Seeks Death Penalty for Trump and Netanyahu Over Killing of Ali Khamenei

Iran has announced plans to pursue legal action against U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over the killing of former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, saying both leaders should face trial in Tehran and receive the maximum punishment under Iranian law, including the death penalty.
According to Iranian judiciary officials, legal proceedings are being prepared against Trump and Netanyahu, who were described as “convicts” responsible for Khamenei’s death.
Khamenei was killed in late June during a coordinated U.S.-Israeli military operation that targeted key Iranian military and government facilities. Iranian authorities said the strike hit a secure location where the Supreme Leader was present, killing him along with several senior military commanders and officials.
The operation marked an unprecedented escalation in tensions between Iran, Israel and the United States, triggering nationwide mourning across Iran and prompting the country’s leadership to vow retaliation.
Following Khamenei’s death, Iran named his son, Mojtaba Khamenei, as the country’s new Supreme Leader.
Speaking during ongoing funeral ceremonies, Iranian officials insisted those responsible for the killing would be held accountable. Judiciary authorities said Trump and Netanyahu would be prosecuted under Iranian law and could face the death penalty if convicted.
While Iran can initiate legal proceedings under its domestic laws, any conviction would have no practical effect outside the country, as neither Trump nor Netanyahu is under Iran’s jurisdiction.
The announcement comes as tensions remain high across the Middle East, with Iran continuing to accuse both the United States and Israel of carrying out what it described as the assassination of its highest-ranking political and religious leader.
