Ogun Area 1 Command Reports N454m Revenue, 487 Seizures in 2025, Targets Strong Start for 2026

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Ogun Area Command, has announced significant revenue achievements and anti-smuggling successes in 2025, while outlining plans to build on these gains in 2026.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday, Ag. Customs Area Controller, NCC Salwbyoo Afenithe, highlighted that the command generated and remitted N454.67 million to federation and non-federation accounts in 2025, representing an 84.3% increase over 2024 collections. He added that as of January 28, 2026, the command had already collected N106.28 million, showing a strong start to the new fiscal year.

“These results demonstrate our commitment to revenue generation, anti-smuggling, and trade facilitation,” the controller said, emphasizing that the achievements were possible through the diligence of officers and cooperation of compliant traders.
The command also recorded 487 seizures in 2025, intercepting items including:
13,332 parcels of Cannabis Sativa
2,128 Redstar cartridges
1,315 pieces of Riodin explosives
50kg of sugar (18 bags), 25 bales of used clothing, and 6 used motorcycles
Various firearms and locally-made guns
The total Duty Paid Value (DPV) of seized items in 2025 stood at N4.13 billion, up from N1.79 billion in 2024.
The NCS highlighted inter-agency collaborations with NDLEA, NAFDAC, NSCDC, and other security agencies in combating drug and arms trafficking along the Idiriko-Igolo border. Arms and ammunition seized have been handed over to relevant agencies for safe disposal.
Ag. Controller Afenithe warned that attacks on customs officers would not deter operations and called on the public and traditional leaders to support the fight against smuggling. He also urged youths to avoid criminal activities and assist authorities in reporting suspicious activities.
The Ogun Area Command affirmed its commitment to protecting the economy, safeguarding lives, and ensuring national prosperity in 2026.
This briefing would be incomplete if I fail to appreciate the continuous support of the Comptroller General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, MFR, PhD, the Nigeria Customs Service, and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.”
