In a move widely seen as reinforcing his administration’s grassroots governance agenda, the Chairman of Orile Agege Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Akinola Idowu, popularly known as Dodo, has flagged off the distribution of desks and benches to all public primary schools in the council.

The exercise, which also covers the distribution of thousands of writing materials to junior secondary schools across the LCDA, is part of the chairman’s broader education-focused intervention aimed at strengthening public institutions at the local government level.

Flagging off the programme, Hon. Idowu said the initiative aligns with his commitment to people-centred governance, stressing that basic education remains a critical pillar for long-term social and economic development.

According to him, investing in school infrastructure and learning materials is a direct response to longstanding challenges in public schools, particularly at the grassroots, where inadequate facilities continue to undermine effective teaching and learning.

Political observers in the area view the intervention as a strategic consolidation of the chairman’s leadership footprint, especially as expectations continue to mount for local governments to translate budgetary allocations into visible, people-impacting projects.

Stakeholders in the education sector and community leaders who attended the flag-off described the programme as a demonstration of political will, noting that improving classroom conditions remains one of the most tangible ways for local administrations to connect policy with everyday realities of residents.

They added that the initiative could also serve as a benchmark for governance performance among other LCDAs in Lagos State, particularly in the delivery of social services at the community level.

The distribution, which is expected to reach all public primary schools in Orile Agege LCDA, will be monitored by the council to ensure transparency and effective implementation.
