Osun: Police ban motorcyclists from using facemasks, hoods

The Osun State Police Command has warned motorcyclists who use hoods or facemasks to cover their heads, faces and noses to desist forthwith.

According to a statement signed by the Commissioner of Police, Patrick Kehinde Longe, and made available by the Command Spokesperson, Yemisi Opalola, on Monday, the warning became imperative due to reports received by the police of activities of criminally-minded commercial motorcyclists popularly known as Okada riders.

The statement revealed that, “These commercial motorcyclists use hoods with the intent to commit crimes such as robbery, rape, etc. on innocent citizens, especially their passengers during the night, whose identities will not be easily ascertained.

“The Police Command enjoined the leadership of the Okada Riders Association in the state to warn their members against covering their heads and faces in any form while riding their motorcycles, as the command has mapped-out strategies to arrest and prosecute anyone found wanting in this regard.”

The Osun police boss also advised members of the public not to board or engage the services of any commercial motorcyclist wearing hoods or facemasks while riding their motorcycles.
