PERJURY SHIELD: COURT PUSHES ABODUN’S DISQUALIFICATION SUIT TO JULY 9, 2026, — CDHR DEMANDS ACCOUNTABILITY NOW!

0

In what civil society organizations are calling a frustrating delay of justice, the Federal High Court in Lagos has adjourned a pivotal suit seeking the disqualification of Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, over serious allegations of perjury and false oath declarations.

At a hearing on Tuesday, the court adjourned proceedings to July 9, 2026, for the substantive hearing of the suit. While the plaintiffs, comprising the Human Global Resource Initiative, Human Rights Monitoring Agenda (HURMA), and Buna Olaitan Isiak, are ready to proceed, this adjournment raises critical questions about the speed of justice in electoral matters.

THE GRAVITY OF THE ALLEGATIONS

This is not a frivolous political squabble. This is a matter of constitutional integrity. The plaintiffs, through their counsel Professor Yemi Oke, SAN, are demanding that the court compel the Governor to answer for:

· Inconsistent Educational Records: Alleged discrepancies in the educational credentials submitted to INEC across the 2014, 2019, and 2023 elections.

· Concealment of Criminal History: Claims that the Governor failed to disclose a purported indictment and imprisonment dating back to 1986.

· Violation of Oath: The core allegation that Governor Abiodun made false declarations under oath, a direct violation of the 1999 Constitution and the Electoral Act 2022.

A DELAY OF JUSTICE?

The case, marked FHC/L/CS/2026, seeks a perpetual injunction restraining INEC from recognizing the Governor. However, the next hearing date, set for July 9, 2026, falls deep into the current administration’s tenure.

The Commitee for the Defence of Human Rights (CDHR) views this development with grave concern.

“While we respect the judicial process, the CDHR questions why a suit challenging the very eligibility of a sitting governor must wait until July 9, 2026 for a hearing,” said a spokesperson for the CDHR. “If a man is alleged to have climbed into office on a ladder of lies, the people of Ogun State deserve to know the truth now, not years down the line. Justice delayed is justice denied.”

CDHR STANDS WITH THE PLAINTIFFS

We commend the courage of the plaintiffs, HURMA and others, for standing up against impunity. We urge the judiciary to prioritize this matter. A governorship seat must not be occupied under a cloud of deception.

We call on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the Department of State Services (DSS) , who are named as defendants, to take this matter seriously and cooperate fully with the court to ensure that the substantive hearing for July 9, 2026 is conclusive and not another round of procedural delays.

We will be in court on July 9, 2026, to ensure that the light of truth shines on the seat of power in Ogun State. The era of certifying falsehood is over. The people demand integrity!
