The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Seme Area Command, has announced the generation of ₦3,480,970,924.67 in revenue for the month of February 2026, with the month still ongoing, reflecting a significant boost in trade activities along the Seme–Krake corridor.

The Customs Area Controller (CAC), Seme Area Command, Comptroller Wale Adenuga, disclosed this during an interactive stakeholders’ engagement session organised by the Nigerian Shippers’ Council in collaboration with the ECOWAS Commission, the ECOWAS Agricultural Trade Programme, and GIZ. The event, themed “Empowering Cross-Border Traders through Trade Information Desk for Agricultural Traders,” was held in Badagry on Wednesday, 25 February 2026.

Comptroller Adenuga, who represented the Comptroller-General of Customs, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, noted that the revenue figure marks a remarkable increase compared to the ₦743,698,652.16 recorded in February 2025. He attributed the impressive growth largely to improved trade facilitation measures and enhanced stakeholder confidence in the Seme–Krake corridor.

In his words:

“For this February that has not yet ended, we have already generated ₦3,480,970,924.67 as against ₦743,698,652.16 generated in February 2025. This clearly shows that the flow of trade is improving and stakeholders are building greater confidence in the Seme–Krake corridor.”

The CAC further assured traders and other stakeholders that the significant reduction in checkpoints along the Seme–Gbaji axis is the outcome of strong collaboration among security agencies operating within the corridor. He clarified that only Agbara and Gbaji remain the officially approved and sanctioned Customs checkpoints along the Lagos–Abidjan corridor.

Comptroller Adenuga also attributed the noticeable decline in crime rates within the Seme–Gbaji axis to the success of monthly joint border security meetings involving all relevant agencies at the border post. According to him, these regular inter-agency engagements have strengthened cooperation, enhanced intelligence sharing, and improved coordinated responses to security challenges, thereby fostering a safer and more conducive environment for cross-border trade.

While highlighting revenue generation and trade facilitation as key priorities, the CAC emphasized that the Command remains resolute in combating illicit activities. He disclosed that the Command recently intercepted a Toyota Highlander vehicle conveying 22 packages of cocaine with an estimated street value exceeding ₦1 billion. The interception, he said, was made possible through credible intelligence shared by the CGC.

In addition, within February 2026 alone, the Command seized 1,000 bags of 50kg parboiled rice, reaffirming its unwavering commitment to suppressing smuggling and safeguarding Nigeria’s economic borders.

Comptroller Adenuga reiterated the vigilance and dedication of officers and men of the Command in working closely with stakeholders, traders, farmers, sister security agencies, and regional partners to sustain the momentum of trade facilitation and security along the Lagos–Abidjan corridor.
