Shun indecent dressings – ASUU charges varsity students

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, has cautioned students against indecent dressing.

Dr Happiness Uduk, chairman of ASUU at the University of Uyo, made the caution when a delegation of the Association of Brotherhood Academic Scholars, ABAS, called on her office to brief her about their 19th convocation ceremony and public symposium on peace.

Uduk, who frowned at the poor dressing habits now prevalent on campuses of many higher institutions, commended the ABAS members on their dressing sense, urging other students and youths to endeavour to dress modestly and decently.

“I want to encourage other students on campus to emulate your examples. I encourage you to lead a life worthy of emulation by jettisoning all vices and crime,” she said.

Remarking on the topic of the symposium, “Threats to Peaceful Co-existence: The Role of a Religious Man,” the ASUU boss commended the young scholars for thinking much about national peace and religious tolerance even as Nigeria’s general election holds next month.

She said pooling their resources to organise the conference is a demonstration of their patriotism and love for humanity, noting that the timing of the symposium is apt considering the political campaign period when the nation is in dire need of peaceful electioneering activities.

Speaking earlier, DV Mbereobong Archibong, President, ABAS UniUyo, said the visit was part of activities to mark the 19th ABAS convocation.

Mbereobong further explained that they are the intellectual arm of the Brotherhood of the Cross and Star whose teachings and practices are rooted in divine love, charitable living and peaceful coexistence among the human race.

“The ABAS 19th convocation will hold in Uyo featuring a solemn street walk for peace, inter-faith symposium, and Hall of Fame Awards to meritorious scholars across the state,” he disclosed.
