Transfer: Argentina World Cup winner explains failed move to Ancelotti’s Real Madrid

Argentina World Cup winner, Exequiel Palacios, has explained why his move to join Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid failed.

Palacios was one of the brightest talents in South America when he was coming through at River Plate.

The 24-year-old was on the verge of joining Real Madrid when he was linked with a move to the Spanish La Liga giants in 2020.

However, Palacios ended up moving to Bayer Leverkusen for €17 million.

He has now revealed why his move to Madrid did not materialize, telling Marca: “The people from Real Madrid traveled to do a medical with me, but in the end it did not happen due to injury.

“I am a guy who always wants more, so I think that if it didn’t happen, it was for a reason. I am on the right track and it is up to me to go far,” he said.

Palacios is now working under Xabi Alonso, who many are tipping to be Real Madrid’s next manager when Ancelotti leaves Santiago Bernabeu.
