The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Western Marine Command, Apapa, Lagos, has confirmed a fire incident at its premises on Monday, September 28, 2026.

The fire, which was detected at about 10:35 a.m., reportedly affected some offices and property within the Command.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, September 29, the Acting Customs Public Relations Officer of the Western Marine Command, Deputy Superintendent of Customs Nwosu Clarine Chibunna, said officers on duty immediately activated emergency response protocols and took steps to contain the outbreak.

According to the statement, personnel of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service arrived at approximately 11:25 a.m. and successfully brought the fire under control.

A preliminary assessment showed that some property and office equipment were affected by the incident, while thick smoke was initially observed emanating from the newly constructed conference hall.

The Customs Service, however, confirmed that no life was lost and no injury was recorded in the incident.

The Command commended its officers and personnel of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service for their prompt response, adding that its core operations remain unaffected and are continuing normally.

To determine the circumstances surrounding the incident, the Command has constituted a committee to investigate both the immediate and remote causes of the fire and make recommendations aimed at preventing a recurrence.

The Command also assured personnel, stakeholders and members of the public that necessary measures would be taken to safeguard its infrastructure and personnel.

It further appreciated the cooperation of relevant stakeholders and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining safety, security and operational efficiency across its formations.
